Early Days (of a better nation) is a an interactive, engaging theatre show I helped develop with Coney<\/span><\/a> during my internship with them in 2013.<\/p>\n

The revolution is over and it\u2019s time to start shaping your new nation. Your country can be anything it wants to be. What are the rules you\u2019re going to live by?<\/section>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

This show in development is a response to the political turbulence of recent years where new forms of citizenship, protest and participation have taken centre stage in broadcast and social media: the 2011 England riots, Arab Spring, a crowd-sourced constitution in Iceland, the rise (and fall) of Occupy, the Indignados and Anonymous.<\/p>\n

With a dynamic combination of theatre and a playing audience, Early Days (of a better nation) explores the possibilities of nationhood and democracy in a political game of unintended consequences.<\/p>\n

I worked as assistant director on this project. I helped in many areas, and had the opportunity to stick my nose inquisitively in designing the dramaturgy and mechanics, writing narrative, researching politics and history, working directly with actors and working with Political Economy academics from King’s College London.<\/p>\n

The project culminated in four shows: three in Battersea Arts Centre 14th-16th November, and one in King’s College University London, 18th December.<\/p>\n
